David Villa scored the first hat-trick of Euro 2008 as Spain lived up to their pre-tournament billing with a fine victory over Russia in Group D.

Russia started positively but were hit on the counter-attack with Fernando Torres squaring for Villa to roll home.

Sweden has traditionally been a strong team in international football, with eleven World Cup appearances and three medals in the Olympics. The Swedish team finished second in the 1958 World Cup, when it was the host team, being beaten by Brazil 5-2 in the final. Sweden has also finished third twice, in 1950 and 1994. In 1938, they finished fourth.

As the host of the 1992 European Championship, Sweden played in their first European Championship tournament. They played in the same group as Denmark, France, and England. Sweden was the only team that defeated the champions of the tournament, Denmark. Sweden finished in the semi-final against Germany, which is the best result for Sweden in the European Championship.

Sweden finished second in Group F behind Spain, thus qualifying for the finals. Lars Lagerback - Manager Of Sweden National Football Team

Lars “Lasse” Lagerbäck [laːʂ 'lɑsɛ 'laːgɛrbɛk] (born 16 July 1948) is a football manager. After Euro 2004, he became the sole manager for the Sweden national football team. He first joined the national team’s coaching staff in 1997 as an assistant to Tommy Söderberg, and was promoted to joint coach in 2000. The pair led Sweden through the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004; after the latter event, Söderberg left the senior national side to take over the coaching job of Sweden national under-21 football team.

Lagerbäck fell under severe scrutiny during the 2006 World Cup. He was very lax throughout the entire duration of the tournament, even when his side fell behind Germany 2-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game. He also made a baffling decision not to start talented midefielder Christian Wilhelmsson, who wasn’t substituted in until the 68th minute. Following the cup, Lagerbäck announced that he would only remain with the squad until Euro 2008, after which he will resign.

In a subsequent press conference, the 3rd April 2007, according to Dagens Nyheter´s Johan Esk, Lagerbäck contradicted earlier statements of him resigning after the 2008 European Cup, by saying that he wasn’t sure if this would be the last qualification to a big tournament he would be part of. However, news filtered through on January 4th that Lagerbäck had signed a new 2-year contract extension.

Although sometimes critisised for promoting less entertaining football, Lagerbäck stands out as arguably the most consistently successful manager of Sweden. He has by now steered his team through five straight qualifications for major international tournaments. This is a feat never before accomplished in the history of Swedish football.

Spain has a reputation for underachievement in the FIFA World Cup, with their best finish being fourth place in 1950 despite often being among the pre-tournament favourites. They often start well, but struggle considerably in the later stages, which is frustrating given the team’s supposedly enormous talent and diligence. Luis Aragonés - Manager Of Spain National Football Team

José Luis Aragonés Suárez Martínez (born July 28, 1938, Hortaleza, Madrid), sometimes referred to as simply Luis, is a former Spanish footballer and current manager. He is currently the coach of Spain. Aragonés has spent the majority of his career as a player and coach at Atlético Madrid. He was a prominent player and then coach of the successful Atlético team of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The team won La Liga four times, reached the final of the European Cup and won the Intercontinental Cup. Between 1964 and 1974 he played 265 La Liga games for Atlético and scored 123 goals. Aragonés has coached the club on four separate occasions. He has also played with several other clubs, most notably Real Betis, and played 11 times for Spain, scoring three goals. Apart from Atlético he has also coached seven other La Liga clubs.

After taking the lead through David Villa, they lost 3-1 following goals from Frank Ribery, Patrick Viera and Zinedine Zidane. Guus Hiddink - Manager Of Russian National Football Team

Guus Hiddink (born 8 November 1946 in Varsseveld) is a Dutch football manager. He managed PSV Eindhoven between 2002-2006. Throughout his entire managerial career, he is best recognised for winning the treble with PSV Eindhoven, leading South Korea to a 4th place finish in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, managing the Netherlands into the same position in the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, leading Australia to the second round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup—their first appearance in the tournament for 32 years—and some impressive displays with PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League and Eredivisie. Hiddink became the manager of the Russian national team after the 2006 World Cup, and led them to main tournament of Euro 2008. Greece’s first appearance in a major tournament was Euro 1980, but their first win did not come until the first match of Euro 2004, a 2-1 win over the hosts Portugal. Greece went on to win the tournament, stunning defending champions France in the quarterfinals and the heavily favoured Czech Republic in the semifinals before beating Portugal for a second time, 1-0, in the final. Otto Rehhagel (born August 9, 1938 in Essen) is a German football coach and former football player. With Helmut Schön, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Udo Lattek and Hennes Weisweiler, he is one of the most successful German managers ever. He is currently manager of the Greece national football team, having led them to a shock European Championship title in 2004.

Rehhagel is the only person who, as player and as manager, has participated in over 1000 Bundesliga-matches. This also explains his nickname Kind der Bundesliga (child of the Bundesliga). In the Bundesliga, he holds the records for the most victories (387), most draws (205), most losses (228), and his teams have scored the most goals (1473) and conceded more (1142) than any others.

Rehhagel played for the local club Rot-Weiss Essen (1960–63), after the start of the Bundesliga for Hertha Berlin (1963–65), and until 1972 for Kaiserslautern. He played 201 games in the Bundesliga. As a player, Rehhagel was known as a tough-as-nails defender.

Romanian national football team is the national football team of Romania and is controlled by the Romanian Football Federation. The main sponsor of the team is Bergenbier, a beer produced by InBev.

Romania is one of only four national teams (the other three being Brazil, France, and Belgium) to participate in the first three World Cups. However, they then qualified only once between the 1950 and 1986 editions. Romania then had a solid run through the 1990s, advancing to the second round or better in three consecutive World Cups. The period was highlighted by the 1994 World Cup where Romania, led by Gheorghe Hagi, reached the quarterfinals and defeated Argentina 3-2 before losing to Sweden on penalty kicks. In Euro 2000 they drew 1-1 with Germany and defeated England 3-2 to advance to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual runners-up Italy.

Marcel “Marco” van Basten (October 31, 1964 in Oog in Al, Utrecht) is a Dutch football manager, currently in charge of the Dutch national team. Previously, he was a football player who played for Ajax Amsterdam and A.C. Milan in the 1980s and early 1990s. He is regarded as one of the finest strikers of all time and scored 277 goals in a career cut short by injury.
